SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of 40 women against Pornhub’s parent company for hosting videos produced by former San Diego-based website GirlsDoPorn.com, the owners and operators of which are facing federal sex trafficking charges. A settlement has been reached in the lawsuit filed on behalf of 50 women who sued Pornhub’s parent company for hosting videos produced by former San Diego-based website GirlsDoPorn.com, NBC San Diego reports. The owners and operators of GirlsDoPorn were charged by federal prosecutors with sex trafficking in October 2019. SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A settlement has been reached in the lawsuit filed on behalf of 50 women who sued Pornhub’s parent company for hosting videos produced by former San Diego-based website GirlsDoPorn.com, the owners and operators of which were charged by federal prosecutors with sex trafficking. A lawsuit was filed this week on behalf of 61 women against Pornhub’s parent company for allegedly hosting videos produced by former San Diego-based website GirlsDoPorn.com, the owners and operators of which were charged by federal prosecutors with sex trafficking. Girls Do Porn was a federally-convicted sex trafficking ring that coerced young women into filming pornographic videos under the pretense of “modeling” gigs.

“It is clear that Pornhub is being targeted not because of our policies and how we compare to our peers, but because we are an adult content platform,” the statement reads, pointing towards the anti-porn history of the two lobbyist groups who they say ‘spearheaded’ the campaign. As per Motherboard, before the purge on Sunday, Pornhub advertised it offered 13.5 million videos. As of publication, the site boasts that you can search 2.9 million videos. Althaus has been unable to maintain a job or healthy relationships and “has been repeatedly followed and harassed,” according to the lawsuit. The complaint further alleges that Pratt took Althaus’ cellphone during the filming and only gave it back to her afterward.
- The lawsuit alleges that the platform knew about the producers’ criminal activities years ago—and continued to host their non-consensual imagery on the site.
- Pornhub removed around 10 million videos in 2020 in an attempt to eradicate child abuse material and other problematic content from its website following a damning New York Times report.
- Findlater, from the Stop It Now helpline, says he hopes other companies, such as social media websites and file-hosting platforms, can look at the results of the trial and introduce similar nudges where people are seeking CSAM.
- In the last few days, even just since the book release, I’ve been contacted by a few documentary companies, and I hope that it becomes not only a documentary but a film, because not everybody reads books these days.
- “We have no indication she even knows this is being filmed,” Mickelwait said of this video, which has been on the site for two years.

“I’m going to kill myself if this stays up here. I was scammed and told this was only going to be on DVDs in another country. Please I’m begging you I’ll pay,” one plaintiff said in a 2016 message to Pornhub. This same victim said they sent two more messages and the video was not taken off MindGeek’s sites until after October 2019, the lawsuit added. It was a hope for the GirlsDoPorn trafficking survivors that Pornhub’s December 2020 decision to stop users from being able to download videos on the site and prohibit the upload of videos from unverified users would help to stop the spread of the GirlsDoPorn videos. The unfortunate truth is that the videos have been shared to other porn tube sites, and the doxing and harassment have escalated for the survivors. Even still, porn consumers all over the internet who had the videos downloaded have continually uploaded and re-uploaded these GirlsDoPorn images and videos to multiple different porn sites over the last few years, even after the decision was handed down in January 2020. Once the videos were posted online many victims contacted Garcia and his co-conspirators seeking to get their videos taken off the websites.

Investigation found images of abuse
Investigators said that victims were forced into performing nonconsensual sexual acts, and when they wanted their videos removed from the websites, Pratt and his partners threatened and intimidated them. Pornhub, which is owned by parent company Aylo (formerly MindGeek), uses a list of 34,000 banned terms, across multiple languages and with millions of combinations, to block searches for child abuse material, a spokesperson for the company says. It is one way Pornhub tries to combat illegal material, the spokesperson says, and is part of the company’s efforts aimed at user safety, after years of allegations it has hosted child exploitation and nonconsensual videos.
When she clicked on it she was taken to Pornhub, to a video of her rape. Minors in pornography is not an issue separate from the adult porn industry. The FBI indicted GirlsDoPorn for federal counts of sex trafficking in October 2019, Vice noted. Adult film actor Ruben Andre Garcia has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in trafficking young women into pornography against their will in California.
“MindGeek also knew of the significant harassment and trauma GirlsDoPorn’s victims were enduring by its continued publication of the victims’ videos. MindGeek simply did not care and continued to partner with GirlsDoPorn until it was no longer profitable because of the indictments and arrests.” A short time later, that footage was posted on GirlsDoPorn’s website and reportedly uploaded to other popular free porn tube sites, including Pornhub, despite the promise that the footage would only be distributed via DVDs on the other side of the world. Many of the women said viewers found and published their full names online, resulting in severe harassment and suicidal thoughts, for some of them.
The website’s activities also spurred dual lawsuits from more than 100 women against the parent company for porn-streaming site PornHub for allegedly profiting off of GirlsDoPorn’s trafficking by hosting its videos. The company reached settlements with the women in both lawsuits and also agreed to pay over $1.8 million to resolve a probe by federal prosecutors who alleged the company knew or should have known it was accepting money that originated from sex-trafficking operations. This time, in the case of 22 women who were deceived and coerced by Michael Pratt, owner of GirlsDoPorn, into performing sex acts on film that were subsequently uploaded to Pornhub. These women sued GirlsDoPorn and won a $12.7 million lawsuit against the company.
The legal documents also lay out the historic claims of abuse against Girls Do Porn which were behind that company’s senior staff being arrested. Victims had repeatedly contacted the company to complain and tell them about the problems, it says. Details of the suit are contained in a legal filing first reported by Vice. In December, Pornhub radically changed its user guidelines to ban unverified uploads and downloads. Last week, the platform released its first-ever transparency report for 2020, as part of its updated trust and safety policies.
It means we are now aware that things aren’t always as they seem when it comes to online pornography. Michael Pratt, the main culprit of the trafficking scheme, fled the country and is a wanted fugitive. And Pornhub executives who are accused of distributing and profiting from the victims’ trauma have yet to face civil or criminal consequences. While the victims may never be fully free of the trauma they have suffered, one of the women, who months before had tried to take her life, told Holm after the sentencing that she has never felt better than knowing Garcia was finally held accountable. The women faced a dark reality – the knowledge that for the rest of their lives, people would use the crime scene footage of their abuse for both pleasure and profit.
- Porn is extremely profitable–67 million dollars is how much it is worth and gets about the same online traffic as Google does.
- We must do it, because serious harm demands serious consequences in order to bring true justice to victims and deter future abusers.
- The boy shared the videos with friends, and someone uploaded them to Pornhub.
- “There is evidence from the defendants’ own records demonstrating the presence of thousands of pieces of CSAM on their sites,” in previous years, US District Judge Cormac J. Carney wrote in the order, using the acronym for child sexual abuse material.
There are “opportunities” to make money on the site as Content Partners which include a video sales share with Pornhub, and a revenue share. The aftermath of the cruelty I survived on those porn shoots has been a fear of people that I am only now overcoming. For a long time just walking down the street was hard because I never knew who had seen them. I have learned to look people in the eye again, but it took years and distance from that time. I was filmed on a set full of cameras, crew, and “performers.” I call them performers so that you will understand who I mean, but you should know that all of it was real.
